Security System and Baseball Diamond Upgrade
You may remember that last year auction guests raised their paddles to donate money specifically for the elementary lunch area. Last summer, Mary Arbogast and her team of girl scouts used that money and put countless hours into transforming the lunch area to what it is today. This year we had two specific causes to raise funds:

1. To provide a security system to ensure safety on our campus during and after school hours

Time frame: June, 2012
Cost: Approx. $2,500.00 (CCC Parents, No Trace Shredding, already raised $500 towards this project) Where: An assessment of the facility will determine the exact locations of the cameras.
Project: To install a Multi Camera Security System that will record the main entry points to the school. Purchase a quality DVR and mountable cameras Any additional funds raised will be used for servicing and or purchasing a higher quality camera system.

2. Baseball Diamond Upgrade to enhance our athletic facilities by improving the look of the CCC baseball diamond

Time frame: Goal is Summer 2012 ready for the 2012-2013 school year
Cost: Approximately $2,100.00
Where: The existing baseball diamond located on the field facing Mallard
Project: To fix or remove the existing fencing To replace the current rock with a newer rock cover Fix the backstop Power wash and paint the bleachers and benches Install a new retaining wall along the side walk If you would like to contribute to either one of these causes, please send a check into the front office.

Be sure to state which project you would like to support.

Grandparents Day 2011
Our campus was a hub of activity on Friday, October 28 as we celebrated our annual Grandparents’ Day. Over 140 grandparents were treated to a morning filled with activities. First on the agenda was a special program that included selections performed by each grade level. Highlights of the program included a grandfather/granddaughter banjo duet, scripture recitations from a set of grandparents (who had traveled from Iowa) and their four grandchildren, and poetry readings by several 8th graders who had written the poems about their grandparents. After the program, grandparents visited the classrooms and later had lunch with their grandchildren at the picnic tables. After lunch, the middle school grandparents were delighted to help judge our annual middle school Funky Hair Day competition.

High School Spiritual Retreat Held at Camp Hammer
As a new teacher, it was my first year to attend the high school spiritual retreat. I was impressed not only with the quality of the program led by Camp Hammer, but also by the unique qualities Contra Costa Christian High School students posses on the whole. Aside from the friendly competitions between classes, a real kinship existed between students and a desire to be an authentic community that is there for one another. I've never heard high school students share this kind of heart for their school. I believe this is the difference being at a Christian school makes. The faith we possess and the Bible being taught are significant, but also the quality of the teachers, their Christian witness, and their example for the students play a significant part in creating this environment. I feel truly blessed to be teaching here among colleagues whose work and faith I deeply respect, as well as students who are seeking to authenticate Christ's love in the community of their school. Far from perfect, we are blessed by God's presence here and sanctifying work in our lives.

Reunion
On September 24, CCCHS alumni who attended between 1979 and 1992 gathered in the multi-purpose room for a time of fellowship and reconnection. The evening was truly amazing with many relationships being rekindled. The alumni were addressed and greatly encouraged by Dr. J. Barry Koops (first CCCHS principal), Paul Gizzi (former Athletic Director, Soccer Coach, Dean of Students, Vice Principal, and Principal), Glenda Culeman (front office for many years) and Greg Van Soelen (current CCCHS Business Development Director). We were all reminded of times long past and were filled with appreciation for a God that created us to live in community with one another.

As we look forward to our next reunion in a year or two, alumni are encouraged to log on to our “CCCHS Reunion” Facebook page (search “CCCHS Reunion” on Facebook) and check out the pictures and comments posted by everyone. If you would like to be on the contact list for our next event, email your contact information to Ryder Brose at Ryder.Brose@LPL.com

Middle School Cheer

Fourth Graders Visit Heather Farm
The fourth graders took a journey back in time when Native Americans lived in California. We went to Heather Farm for a program called Native Plants, Native People. We learned about how Valley Oak acorns were used for food. The students used willow branches to make hoops to practice aiming skills. We heard a legend about how the first Californians thought earthquakes were caused. Finally, we made rope out of the cattail plant. It was great to experience life many years ago in California.

7th and 8th Graders Participate in Worship and Adventure at Hume Lake
The middle school students enjoyed a wonderful week of spiritual emphasis at Hume Lake Christian Camp near Kings Canyon National Park during the third week of September. The 68 students and six adults participated in week-long activities focusing on spiritual growth, character building, and leadership. The week was filled with praise-filled chapel times, Group Initiative challenges, and solo (as well as group) devotion times. Students also participated in a myriad of outdoor free-time activities including paddle boarding on the lake, bungee jumping, going to the café for evening snacks, volleyball, swimming, and just hanging out with friends. During this week at Hume, students were challenged to experience God as their personal Savior in a setting where they could marvel at His beautiful creation.
